IPL 2025: BCCI Begins Finalising Retention Policy
With the mega IPL players auction scheduled for later this year, the BCCI has initiated the process of finalizing the retention policy. Franchises have requested the Indian cricket board to extend the number of player retentions for the next three seasons.
Franchise Opinions Vary on Retention Numbers
According to Cricbuzz, the opinions of the 10 franchises have varied on this matter. A majority have requested more retentions compared to the previous allowance of four players per team. The final decision will be made later this month during a meeting with the team owners.
BCCI Consults with Franchises
The Chief Operating Officer of the IPL, Hemang Amin, has reportedly spoken to the CEOs of the franchises to gather their opinions on the player retention policy and the salary caps for the upcoming three years. The mega-auction for IPL 2025 will offer many teams a chance to overhaul their squads, while top teams will aim to retain their best talent.
Consideration of RTM Cards
Just like in 2021, the BCCI is considering the inclusion of Right-to-Match (RTM) cards. This rule allows a player who was with a certain franchise to have the option to match the highest bid by another team before being sold. This rule was not in effect in 2021 but may be reintroduced.
Retention Requests and Concerns
Most franchises have requested between five and seven retentions, with one team suggesting eight. Conversely, a few teams are against having any retention policy and have suggested only using RTM cards with no retentions.
Impact Player Role Discussions
There have also been discussions regarding the impact player role. Media rights owners are reportedly happy with the rule, while playing sides and coaching staff are not as enthusiastic. It is expected that the BCCI will continue with the Impact Player rule for now.
The final decision on these matters will be crucial for shaping the future of IPL 2025 and beyond.(Dubai7 realmoneygame)
